A gentle planet inhabited by Gnomes, Ack-Arnon is the second largest planet which orbits the outer reaches of the Nexus. Ack-Arnon is envied by many races, for the Gnomes are the only race advanced in any form of ‘technology’, which many regard as the ‘darker art of magic’. It is a technology they guard, and do not share with other races.
The unique features of Ack-Arnon are the ways the world functions, as opposed to the rest of the surrounding planets. Each world in the Nexus functions under the direct influence and control of ‘magic’…forces of (natures) energy that can be tapped into, shaped and in many instances, controlled by those with the right knowledge of how this energy works. This energy comes from living organisms, such as plants and animals, which, connected with a planet, create a specific harmony.
Ack-Arnon is still referred to as ‘magic’ by the Gnomes, who are unable to harness the limited “natural” forces surrounding their large planet. In fact, technology is actually referred to as ‘pure magic’ and has become the planetary religion of the species which inhabit it. Ack-Arnon is over 60% mineral and devoid of bountiful plant life seen and enjoyed on other worlds, thus there are very few locations that have a collective organic area large enough to support ‘organic’ magic. Hence, Gnome mages work technology and a limited form of organic mysticism, referred to as Techno-Mages, which specialize in utilizing the unique and powerful electromagnetic spectrum the planet generates.
On the other hand the Gnomes, using technology, have found perfected methods to travel from their planet and to create portals of their own, through the very technology other races fear. All interaction is strictly monitored and controlled with other races, for fear of invasion and theft of their coveted inventions.
In fact, planetary law was enacted that prevents the research or development of any destructive device—except by “regulated government personnel”.
It happens to be a trait of Gnomes, who admire other planets for their abundance of wildlife and resources, to mimic creatures from other planets, into the technological designs. Though Ack-Arnon thrives in many respects, there are a few resources that lack on this large planet. It is for this reason, as well as maintaining a great variety of foods, spices and other desired goods that the Gnomes frequently trade and/or provide services unavailable anywhere else in the system. The greatest trade agreement is between the Gnomes and the Elves, who live upon a planet of lush forest and abundant water sources. The elves completely respect the wishes of the Gnomes and do not interfere with their planet in any way. Another agreement was struck between the Gnomes and King Robert III, when King Robert demonstrated a means of growing plants without the need for soil, but rather, using rocks and the natural minerals which are so abundant on Ack-Arnon (hydroponics).
Ack-Arnon’s population flourishes with 1.5 billion Gnomes, all residing in the only fully inhabitable region of the planet: Clockworks City. A city that recycles itself and its surroundings, which is made almost entirely of metals.
The government (or ruling bodies) is split into three distinct ‘factions’: The Political Party, the Religious Party, and the G.R.R. (Gnome Resistance Revolutionaries). Each of which, compete for the attention and the loyalty of the Gnome populace.
