Prelude Gets a Cover Change
It’s difficult when the timing of books doesn’t work out the way you hope. What was a desire to keep with a certain theme backfired when I insisted on creating the cover of the first book: Prelude to a Hero.
There’s been so much confusion over that cover–I’m wondering if the smiley face has prevented people from reading the book? That could very well be the case. The reviews we have are all good and readers love the story, but there seems to be hesitation…so after talking it over with On The Fly Publications, we have a new cover!
I’m not too disappointed, but I’ll be interested in seeing the reaction when the next cover comes out–whether knowing why a smiley face exists will make a difference…
For now I give in–and I apologize for confusing people. You will most likely have an “aha” moment when you read Race to Til-Thorin, but that doesn’t help motivate people to read Prelude now.
If you haven’t read Prelude to a Hero, give it a shot. It’s a fun story and at only $3.99, you’re getting a heck of a deal for an evening of laughs and adventure!

The new cover definitely connects you with the story more than the previous one;-)
Keep me posted on if it makes a difference.
Will do, Lafe. The only comment that was made at OTF was that the smiley face needed to be somewhere on the cover to keep with branding–to connect all the books. I don’t disagree, but perhaps it can be reinserted once the next book comes out, so as to avoid some confusion.
As I said–no one will question the cover IF they knew what it was about….but they don’t. They couldn’t, unless they read the book. So work with the readers. It’s a clever idea used too soon I think, but that’s just my opinion.
